LEVEL:
This project level is Easy, Beginner-friendly and works up very fast.
SUPPLIES:
Yarn: I used double-stranded 1mm Yeye yarn. Alternatively, use a Category #3 / light worsted / DK weight yarn.
Crochet hook: 0–3 months (3mm hook).
Yarn needle
Scissors
Plastic Baby Shoe Inserts (this is optional. It helps shape your completed baby footwear)
GUAGE/TENSION:
Work the three rounds of the sole pattern. To check guage, the completed length of the sole of the baby sandal should measure as follows:
Age: 0–3 months
Hook size: 3mm hook
Sole length: 3.5″ (9cm)
STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS USED:
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc(s) – single crochet(s)
sl(s) – slip stitch(es)
ch(s) – chain stitch(es)
hdc(s) – half double crochet(s)
dc(s) – double crochet(s)
PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:
(A). SOLE:
Ch 13
Round 1: 2dc in 3rd ch from hook (skipped 2 chs do not count as a st), 1dc in next 9sts, 5dc in last ch, working up the other side of the ch, 1dc in next 9sts, 2dc in last ch, sl st to first dc at the beginning to join.
Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 2sc in next 2 sts, 1sc in next 4sts, 1hdc in next 2sts, 1dc in next 3sts, 2dc in next 5sts, 1dc in next 3sts, 1hdc in next 2sts, 1sc in next 4sts, 2sc in next 2 sts, sl st to first sc at beginning to join.
Round 3: Ch 3 (does not count as a st), 2dc in next 4sts, 1dc in the next 9 sts, 2dc in next 10 sts, 1dc in next 9 sts, 2dc in next 4sts, sl st to first dc at beginning to join, cut yarn.
N.B: You'll need to make 4 soles in total to complete a pair of sandals. 2 soles joined together with a slip stitch are required for each feet).
(B) THE TOE SECTION
Steps:
1. Locate the centremost 15sts from the front of the sole.
2. Insert stitch marker after the 15th (I.e 16th stitch) on the right side of the sole.
3. Insert your choice yarn on the 16th stitch, ch 1 (counts as stitch), 1sc in next 2sts, ch 1, turn.
4. 1sc in next 3sts, ch 1, turn
5. Continue this pattern (4 above) for a total of 17 rows.
6. Ch 1, cut the yarn and attach completed strap to the left side of the sole with a yarn needle. Cut yarn, weave in ends.
(C) BACK OF SANDAL
Row 1: Locate the centremost 20sts at the back or heel of the sole, insert yarn on the right side of sole, ch 1 (counts as stitch), make 1sc in next 19sts, ch 1 (does not count), turn
Row 2: 1sc in next 20sts, ch 1, turn
Row 3-9: Repeat Row 2...ch 1, cut yarn, weave in ends.
(D) SANDAL STRAP:
Make ch 19, skip 6chs for button loop, make 1 dc in the next 13chs. Cut yarn, attach to the appropriate side of the sandal. Weave in ends.
